This is Behind The Scenes With 5th
Grade telling you about this week. Today we are going to do survival day! We
are excited to have it because we just finished novels with the theme of
survival. The fifth grade had to bring in sticks and leafs and fruits so we
could have it.

This week we did some very interesting things. This week we
did a debate on college sport players the question was, do you think college
sport players should get paid?
We also did our last Lemonade War baked goods stand. We had brownies on Tuesday and Rice Krispy Treats on Friday.
In writing, we finished up our Mix and Match Me project. Then we worked on writing similes about ghosts. They're hanging in the hallway. Be sure to check them out!
We
talked about our upcoming survival day because our survival novels have been
completed. We are bringing in fruits, sticks, and leaves. We went to art and
completed a very complicated project. It was very tricky to get the shadowing
right. Some people from fourth and fifth grade went to an engineering program
with Mrs. Vance, and we built towers out of raw noodle sticks and then we put a
marshmallow on top to see if it could support it. John, Jacob and Drew’s group
won. Then John and Jacob competed in a paper airplane contest. In Spanish we
finished up presenting our power points. In media we finished making our power
points, then we got to play games. During PE, the boys and girls got to do
Frisbee since it POURED the day before. This week, Mrs. Benzing’s math class
introduced the parentheses group. That’s what happened this week.
